On the 2nd of August, I arrived at the Pittsburgh International Airport — nervous, excited and overwhelmed. After meeting the Thompson’s at Arrivals, I immediately felt so welcomed after seeing their heart warming smiles. My stay here has been nothing short of amazing, I’ve loved every minute spent with these beautiful kids.
Pittsburgh is such a beautiful city. I fell in love with a lot of places and I’m so very grateful for every experience. It’s so hard for me to pick my favorite place, but some of the highlights are Phipps Conservatory, the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and Vinosky Winery!
I enjoyed seeing Pittsburgh both by day and night – we enjoyed walks down at the Point State Park and North Shore River Park by day and saw Pittsburgh’s skyline, stadiums and it’s beautiful three rivers by night on the Gateway Clipper Cruise.
Point State Park
Of course we also had a trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge just two weeks into my stay for a week long of fun. We visited the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Animal Kingdom. We made so many memories on this trip!
My personality has developed so much because I’ve learned to love my life and my work with the kids. I didn’t know one could love children that are not their own so much! And yes of course there are hard days with kids, but there are so many rewarding moments.
I knew that matching with the Thompson’s was the right decision. I’ve learned so much from Krista — especially her special and conscious parenting skills. I learned so much about Montessori and will take that with me as my journey here in the US continues. Krista’s love for and patience with her kids is so admirable; I’m so grateful to call her my American soul sister. I’m definitely going to miss our heart to heart conversations, wine time, Starbucks trips and shopping (of course!).
I’m so sad to leave my drama queen Gabi – who tells me she needs “space” at just 18 months old. Have you ever heard anything so funny?
And the sweetest little boy, Nico, who always bakes for “Chloe” and wonders where I am when he does not see me around the house.
And not forgetting my precious baby Mila, who I got to spend a lot of time with over the last month and a half- this girl just loves being outside! This is the first time I’ve taken care of an infant this little- they are simply so precious at this age! It’s been wonderful to see the transformation from when I arrived- she was less than a month old- to now… I swear she’s doubled in size!
Meeting the extended family was really special to me as well; they all made me feel part of the family and welcomed me completely. I have to admit that Nonna is my absolute favourite and has inspired me to become a flight attendant! Have you seen those beautiful uniforms??? LOL!
Thompson family, I’m going to miss you all so much but this is not goodbye, it’s see you soon! Off to the next part of my journey in New Jersey!
